Waitress! Jalapeños, please!

And don't forget the Mexican spices!

We're not frequently steering away from our electro/indie/post-punk passion.
When we do, as already proven in the past, it's worth it!

This time we headed for Cully's Oxymore theater with a ticket in our pockets and a few minutes delay on the clock. Luckily we have our insider there, the show could wait (with our apologies and gratitude to the organizers). We're attending the first show by the Jalapeño project's first creation: Le Sandman’s Café.

The show consists of a smart mix of music, acting and cabaret that the five components of the group perfectly blend into great entertainment.
Several sketches are represented during the show and the very gifted singers, who created lovely rearrangements of a broad variety of songs, really own the stage.
Laughter and admiration fill the theater hall as we enjoy listening to Billy Jean and a reinterpretation of The Axis of Awesome's Four Chords Song, among the others!

We can't imaging of any other word than fresh for describing the performance!
We're rather sure all the other attendees, who also enjoyed the after-show drink with the performers, agree with us.
The extended applause at the end of the evening, which triggered not one, but two encores, stands as proof.

A piece of Broadway has come to the shores of Lac Léman as these guys staged their first show.
We can't wait for the second!

Part of Lausanne never dies: 2manydjs live at D! Club

I think this review of the Dewaele brothers' concert yesterday night at D! Club could easily be replaced by the description of the constant whistle in our ears and a picture of the smile on our faces. But now that we're at it, let's go with the details...

The night begins with a set by Speedrax where we finally realize how music by Boys Noize and The Toxic Avengers is not something relegated to underground clubs anymore!

The nice gig keeps the kids dancing until the big stars finally walk the stage.
The Belgian duo comes back to Lausanne after a stunning surprise gig at Vivapoly in May 2010 and a disappointing (double) forfait in Zürich at the end of last year.
Our expectations are therefore very high. We've been waiting for quite some time, hours and months at the same time, and our legends must not fail us. They didn't.
After a few minutes the guys from Ghent manage to get to know the sound system at D! Club (and also to get rid of some very nice equipment from the previous dj, like the Novation Launchpad for Ableton Live).
The difference between a good dj and these guys, who mix using no laptop whatsoever, is then made clear.
If you're dancing to some very hard bass lines and you suddenly hear a sample form Money, Money, Money by ABBA, you'll smile at their genius. When after a few seconds you spot another old school sample, from Pink Floyd's Money, you'll just go nuts at their cleverness.
The whole set is like this, bright ideas and hard bass lines. It's been worth the wait.

At the dawn of 4 am, as the set is finishing, we dance our last energies to Crookers and Soulwax's We love animals, closing a night opened by, among the others, To protect and entertain by Busy P (Crookers remix).
These people are among the best performers and producers in the world of electro music.
We suddenly realize how all of them played in the past month at D! Club, which has come up with a brilliant schedule lately.

Mind you, it's not over yet. Next week Party Bangers are bringing another big shot to the club in Place Centrale: Moguai, from deadmau5's label mau5trap.
We can only hope the mouse himself will soon pay us a visit!

Goose live in Lausanne, Can't stop them now!

Sometimes, live concerts can be a lottery.
You can have great expectations and be disappointed, as well as walk in unknown places and come out with a smile.

Last Friday, we hit jackpot. We knew Goose. We knew how good their music is. We just didn't know how stunning their live performances could get.
These four guys are very talented and smart musicians and we can't possibly be happier to have witnessed this great gig.
They opened their live set with the title track from their latest album, Synrise, quickly followed by Can't Stop Me Now and Black Gloves, a great hit (which also got remixed by The Bloody Beetroots) from their previous release Bring It On. At this point we couldn't stop dancing.
We were literally floating in the beauty of their music, especially while listening to songs like As Good As It Gets and Everybody.
Many persons, even the event organizers at Les Docks, describe them as similar to 'Justice, Klaxons'...nothing could be more untrue, they're far better. And here is why.
Great bands know how to use instruments to create great music. Only a bunch, however, know how to use silences (and breaks) to make it even better. This is Goose's greatest strength, and you can't find a better example than the previously mentioned Can't Stop Me Know.
If you're one of those persons who can't be bothered listening to an entire new album, get this track first. You'll buy the rest right after.
France and Holland are going to be struck next, don't miss these guys.

[SPOILER ALERT] If you're wondering how I know the tracklist in detail, look at the pictures. I personally fought to get it, and if Goose want it back...well, I'm keeping it anyway! :)

Crookers at D! Club in Lausanne, our 2 cents

Impressive, no less than that. Yesterday night a huge crowd of electro-lovers filled the D! Club, witnessing a spectacular show by Crookers. Even more impressive is the fact that these people put their faith in the Italian duo, ditching MAD and the electro house superstar Laidback Luke. These folks were not disappointed, as Crookers dropped a cutting edge performance and entertained the vast number of attendees. Their mixing style and taste are slightly unconventional, with funky beats mixed with harsh bass lines and frequent drops. Something which clearly made everyone go crazy, making the act of jumping the favorite sport in the crazily packed club. Another great success for Party Bangers then, which also deserves credit for the first-class performance by their dj Bad Nelson. Hearing, in the same mix, Sweet Dreams by the Eurythmics, Positif by Mr. Oizo and Warp 1.9 by The Bloody Beetroots and Steve Aoki, the latter literarily tearing the place apart, is just brave and genius.

A closing remark on D!: well managing a club is hard, we know it. Badly managing it with such guests is even harder, though. Expecting people to show up at 10pm for a table reservation (which in principle is a VIP service) is just not acceptable. Moreover, paying 35.- chf for the entrance and 17.- chf for drinks is reasonable, unless bouncers give free wrist stamps to friends. We personally witnessed this arrogant behavior, made without even trying to hide it from the surprised (and offended) long queue. Moreover, inside the club we met people who were bounced due to their age while queueing right in front of us.

We're sure these are just isolated cases. Hopes are that similar situations won't happen at the next big event we will attend, the 2manydjs dj set on March, 5th (by the way...'dj set'? why not having the visuals too?).

Crookers @ D!Club, Lausanne

Crookers, the eclectic Italian duo from Milan, are finally paying visit to the mecca of electronic music in Lausanne, the D! Club! on Saturday 12 February 2011.

Crookers' wildly successful hit single 'Day 'n nite', in 2009, represented a milestone in the history of modern Electro, a genre mostly shaped in recent days by them and their friends The Bloody Beetroots.

On top of their innovative style, which can be found in their latest album (Tons of Friends, featuring stellar collaborations) a link with the past is also present in their remixes and the wisely chosen tunes for their gigs, which include AC/DC, Run DMC and Sangue Misto (Italian hip hop legends from the 90s).

It won't be easy to find an excuse for missing this one...

Long Conversations and the Closet Orchestra: What a concert!

We arrive at 8pm, we ask for a Negroni and start eating the nice buffet offered by Klesta, the manager of Sidewalk. People start coming, nice soft atmosphere while sipping our cocktails. The band is also enjoying some food and beers. Still early for  the concert but one of the member of the band, solo with guitar, decides to perform some of his compositions. The place is full already, but people is still coming. It's 9.30pm Fede introduces the band, silence around, Long Conversations start playing a great music. Everybody is smiling, these guys are really good!
Can we say it? The first live concert organized by 2MoreRaw Production was a success!
